Barking and Dagenham is a borough of London with a rich diversity of people, spaces, local activities and communities keen to make change.
Through our amplify model, using the tools of story-telling and community action, The Young Foundation in partnership with Community Resources, are supporting local people and organisations, to amplify the strengths and assets in Barking & Dagenham to build stronger and more connected communities.
The project is being led by a team of community researchers who represent different parts of the community in Barking and Dagenham. They have been gathering the stories of people living and working in the area to understand the lived experience of life in the borough and perceptions around social cohesion. The particular focus has also been on amplifying the stories of people who do not feel that their voices are usually heard.
These stories are then used as a catalyst for social action and we will be supporting local people to develop new initiatives that will facilitate stronger social cohesion between different parts of the community.
The project is being funded by Barking and Dagenham Council through their Connected Communities programme.
