Luton’s next generation of changemakers
As part of Luton Borough Council’s ground breaking Fairness Taskforce, and thanks to funding received from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are working with local organisations to offer a new action learning programme that will help re-imagine and redefine community leadership for social justice in Luton.
What's the opportunity?
- This is an eight-month community leadership programme for people who live or work in Luton.
- We will bring together up to 30 people (aged over 18) across the borough to explore the skills, tools and relationships needed to shape the future of Luton around the 2040 vision of ‘a town built on fairness and social justice’ to tackle poverty and inequality so that everyone can thrive.
- We are recruiting individuals from any sector or background – activists, artists, innovators, curators, educators, carers, organisers, technologists. If you are curious, motivated and passionate about social justice, we want to hear from you!
- This programme will act as a springboard to shape thoughts and ideas about the future of Luton, creating a space for cross-sector and cross-systems connection and collaboration, moving to action through the Fairness Taskforce.
- Sessions will take place once a month over eight months, lasting up to five hours each, and alternating between a central Luton location and online.
- Optional 1:1 or small group coaching to complement sessions and offer personalised support.
What you'll get from participating
- Knowledge of different leadership and innovation tools
- Personal reflections drawn from 1:1 coaching
- Practical knowledge and experience of peer coaching and action learning
- One (or more) areas of practical personal or collective exploration or experimentation. This is an opportunity to take action on something that matters to you in Luton, that will contribute to the Luton 2040 vision
- An expanded network of like-minded individuals who want to work towards a fairer future for Luton.
Financial support
While many participants will join as part of their paid employment, we want to ensure this opportunity is accessible to all. If you have questions or support needs, please note these in your application. We are able to offer some financial support:
- Travel expenses within the borough of Luton will be reimbursed for everyone in the cohort.
- Bursaries are available for individuals not in paid employment or whose time participating in the programme will not already be paid for by their existing employer. This can be claimed at £13.15 per hour.
