Abstract
The English Village and Community Hall Survey 2020, written on behalf of Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), is a detailed look at village halls across England. The ten-year survey provides a snapshot of the state of England’s varied and essential village and community halls, their funding, use and changes over time. With over 2,000 responses, this survey highlights the vital service that village halls provide as a meeting place, a place to earn a living, and a place to mobilise the community. This survey records the state of village and community halls immediately before COVID-19 forced the first ever mass closure in their long history.
