Almost immediately after the last London mayoral election the Labour party started to think about candidates for the next ballot. Community Worker David Robinson felt that this was the time for thinking about ideas and a citizens vision for our city not immediately rerunning the personality parade. He and Will Horwitz set up the little website called Changing London (www.change-london.org.uk) and invited Londoners to submit their suggestions.
The book “Changing London – a rough guide for the next London mayor” was published last month. It makes the arguments for a different kind of politics and draws together the ideas submitted over the last 18 months. The result is a radical and imaginative programme constructed by the people for the people. Both the process and the outcome break new ground.
As Jon Cruddas says in his foreword “is the political class ready for this kind of radical democratic politics? It doesn’t matter. Do wait for permission or nothing will change.”
