We are recruiting a Senior Researcher post which is a new role for The Young Foundation; focused on helping lead the work of the research team and facilitating the varied work they do. Working with the Research Director, this will help ensure projects are generating a compelling and influential body of evidence and delivered to a high standard.

The Young Foundation harnesses the power of social innovation to tackle the root causes of inequality. We are a multidisciplinary organisation combining research, innovation and venture development, social investment and advocacy to achieve our goals. Our research team is a mixed methods team, with a specialisation on ethnographic and iterative approaches. In the tradition of Michael Young, our founder, we take a rounded approach to social policy issues and current societal challenges, exploring more about hidden or under explored social dynamics or developing thought on seemingly intractable social problems. Much of our work currently focuses on community-led action and innovation to help us learn more about change and routes to equality.

We are seeking a Senior Researcher who has the experience and expertise to manage teams and varied projects and programmes of work where required – from our research-led programmes on social innovation, organisational ethnography and observation of social dynamics, to our participatory and action-oriented research in communities which supports our colleagues supporting prototyping and acceleration of innovative ideas and practices. We aim for the insight we generate to influence and inspire support for social innovation and change to challenge inequality, as well as develop expertise in understanding it.

We are looking for an individual who can help us manage and develop our team, and who has the research skills and confidence to explore new contexts and techniques, or to take a new approach to seemingly entrenched issues. Our work is collaborative and we will expect you to be a team player with a strong conviction for the role that research can play in influencing and shaping policy, practice and opportunities for change.

Our work is based across the UK and Europe and we will expect that at certain times you will travel frequently to deliver it.
