Acting locally is not enough to tackle inequality in a connected and interdependent world. A strategy that is both locally and globally networked is required.

Open knowledge is the first step in our approach. The Young Foundation is in constant dialogue with the community of innovators across the world.

Experimentation is the second step, and Europe is our laboratory. The Young Foundation was successful in introducing the concept of social innovation as a priority for the current EU policy strategy and funding programs, and we are using this unique opportunity for experimentation with new forms of socio-economic production and political participation – driven by data science, new financial instruments, open governance & civic movements.

From 2014 we have been hosting conversations with civic activists, entrepreneurs, policy-makers and like-minded organisations from all sectors to develop a new platform for joint action in Europe. We have also explored the role of social investment for sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Europe.
